Ex-Dallas City Council member pleads guilty to taking bribes

DALLAS (AP) — A former Dallas City Council member has pleaded guilty to accepting bribes from a real estate developer in exchange for supporting an affordable housing project, according to court documents unsealed Friday.

Carolyn Davis, a member of the council’s Housing Committee, took tens of thousands of dollars from the developer between November 2013 and June 2015, according to her plea agreement.

The developer, Ruel Hamilton, is accused of paying Davis at least $40,000 in bribes and promising her future consulting work. In return, Davis lobbied and voted for more than $2.5 million in city " funds and obligations" for Hamilton’s development in southern Dallas, according to an indictment.

National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care Chief Economist Beth Mace, whose organization has data on about 14,000 properties, outlined the big picture for national and DFW senior housing.

DALLAS, Jan. 3, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — Comerica Bank’s Texas Economic Activity Index increased by 0.1 points in October to 135.8. October’s index reading is 40 points, or 42 percent, above the index cyclical low of 95.5. The index averaged 128.5 points for all of 2017, 4.2 points above the average for 2016. Dallas woman says husband slain because he was beating cat

DALLAS, TX – Dallas police say a 47-year-old woman has told detectives she shot and killed her husband because he was beating the family cat.

Authorities say Mary Harrison has been arrested and jailed on a murder charge for the slaying of her 49-year-old husband Dexter Harrison. She’s held on $100,000 bond.

Mary Harrison told authorities the shooting Saturday occurred during an argument. Dexter Harrison was taken to a hospital where he died.

Dallas police, in a statement Sunday, say she told officers that he’d been beating the cat.

Neighbors say the family cat recently went missing, Mary Harrison had posted signs about it disappearing and the pet eventually returned.
